At the end of this one-day, hands on course you will have created an initial four-page Web site with which to promote your business or event!
Your initial page set would typically comprise the following elements, linked by a menu system:
- Home Page
- Details Page (i.e. details of Products / Services / Event)
- Contact Us Page
- Picture Gallery
An overview of Templates & Style sheets, which inform the layout and style of your site and are used as a pre-set framework for site development
Practical exercises in working with a simple Content Management System (CMS), including all of the following tasks
- Adding web pages and menu items, previewing your work, publishing it to the site and viewing your pages, as they would appear on the internet
- Adding content to pages including
- Formatting text
- Working with the WYSIWYG editor
- Adding images to content pages including:
- Sizing, formatting and uploading page images
- Inserting uploaded images into your pages
- Links within your own pages
- Links to external sites
- Clickable links to email addresses
- Content awareness
- Titling and metatagging
- Submitting to search engines
- Adding images
- Arranging images
- Deleting images
A working address for your site will be provided, e.g. yourbusinessname.bis-zone.com, but, in this section, we will also cover the benefits of obtaining a dedicated Domain Name for your business or organisation; how to register your chosen Domain and selecting appropriate hosting for your site
Q & A session on what has been covered in the day and any other queries
Overview of additional site modules, e.g. for News pages and E-commerce
Skills required
You will need basic computer skills, including word processing, working with images, using the Internet and email applications.
What we will need in advance of the course
Once you have confirmed your place on the course, we will need the following, please, in order that we can prepare a machine for you to work with on the day
- Your logo, or special image, with which to create a header for your pages
- Basic text for your 4 pages, including
- Home page content: Welcome message / mission statement / introduction to business / event
- Details page content: Detailed information about your products / services / event
- Contact page information: Your contact details, including postal address, phone / email details
- Photos for use as follows :
- (a) To be included on your pages, to illustrate text
(b) To be included in your picture gallery.
Course Fees
The course costs £95.00 per person, discounted to £75.00 for early booking (please see dates information below).
Fees include refreshments and a Ploughman's Lunch, with meat and / or cheese options.
